Richard Korsmeyer | Zoning Board of Appeals - Alternate
|
What inspired you to run for local office? I have never run for public office, but since I moved to Old Lyme over 33 years ago, I’ve been impressed by the dedication of our public servants and their responsiveness to the needs of citizens. Being able to play a small role in making life easier for our neighbors is appealing. |

Why should someone vote for you?
My priorities as a Zoning Commission candidate are clear: advocating for sensible regulations and development that protect Old Lyme's essential qualities – our cultural legacy, our small-town lifestyle, and the fragile ecosystem we share – in balance with individual property rights, and our economic development and housing needs. I'm dedicated to making rational decisions based on thorough preparation and open dialogue with all stakeholders. In addition to the cases that come before the Zoning Commission, the ongoing rewrite of the Old Lyme’s Zoning Regulations will provide an important opportunity to apply these priorities and principles Why are you an excellent candidate for this position?
I have more than 30 years of experience working with diverse teams during my professional career and I anticipate being able to work well with colleagues on the Zoning Board of Appeals to respond to such issues as should come before us. I like to focus on facts and my approach to zoning is influenced by two principles: that one should have the ability to make use of one’s property and that the zoning regulations are generally reasonable. |
