Kathleen Tracy | Zoning Board of Appeals Alternate
Education
BA, Boston College MA ED, Seattle University Educational Leadership and doctoral work, University of Connecticut What inspired you to run for local office? I think it is important for people to give back to their community and participate in an area that they can make a significant contribution. Government is not for everyone, but it is an area that I feel I can make a difference. I am discouraged by the lack of competency in our current administration and feel the job can be done more effectively. Subsequently, I raised my hand to help out! |
Bio and Qualifications
I have been a property owner in Old Lyme for over eighteen years. I love to swim and I am a big fan of Sound View Beach! I'm a retired school educator and administrator for thirty nine years. I worked at Duffy Elementary School in West Hartford while living in the town of Windsor. I currently serve on the Shoreline Gateway Committee. As a watercolor artist, I am a member of the Lyme Art Association where I sell my work. Three days a week, I take care of my grand nephew's after school. I love this town! |

Why should someone vote for you?
I have been on the Zoning Board of Appeals for two years and have learned a great deal, and I would like to continue my service to put my learning to good use. I know, if elected, I will continue to learn and I'm excited to put that knowledge to good use for the sake of the people in Old Lyme. As an alternate, I feel like I am in training. With two more years of experience, I hope one day to be able to have a full seat on the ZBA to serve the community. I am a problem solver. Working on the ZBA gives me an opportunity to work together as a team to help members of the community resolve issues. It is a very collaborative group and I enjoy working together across party lines to serve the people. |
What’s your favorite place in Old Lyme?
I must admit, my favorite spot in Old Lyme is Sound View Beach (SVB). Yes, it is true I love to swim no matter what the water temperature and SVB has the best swimming area on the Connecticut Coast. SVB also has the best ice-cream, lemon ice and a wonderful boutique in the Carousel Shop as well as restaurants right on the beach. People are friendly and whether the sun is out or not, SVB is the very best spot to be.
What is a "fun fact" about you?
Although I rarely, if ever, win I really enjoy playing canasta. I never give up trying!! |
What do you do in your spare time?
Swim, golf, paint, play canasta and other card games, walk an hour a day! |
