Kathleen Tracy | Zoning Board of Appeals AlternateBio and Qualifications
I am a twenty-year Old Lyme resident. I was an educator for 39 years and I am a life long learner. I was a school administrator for 23 years and retired from the West Hartford Schools as Principal of Duffy Elementary. I have had two terms in office as a ZBA alternate and have learned a great deal about zoning regulations. I hope to use my experience and training going forward to be a more viable candidate. Zoning regulations can be complicated but I am committed to going to every meeting, whether seated or not, as every case is a new learning experience. I am committed and dedicated to my volunteer role. What’s your favorite place in Old Lyme? Sound View Beach and swimming What is something not many people know about you?
I love the beach and swimming in the Sound. I start swimming in April and pack it in by November. It is a challenge but I think it is a healthy activity that will lengthen my life span. I think it is important to take care of yourself by eating right, exercising often, and getting plenty of good sleep. What is your favorite book? Mindset by Carol Dweck What do you like to do in your spare time?
I walk 6,000 steps a day, meditate several hours a day, and paint in watercolor at least once a week. |
Education
BA, Boston College MAED, Seattle University Educational Leadership and Doctoral Student, UCONN Superintendent's credentials 2012 What inspired you to run for local office? I am running for my third term for Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA) Alternate because I appreciate the opportunity to serve my community in a positive volunteer capacity. The members of the ZBA are thoughtful, caring individuals who do not use politics, but zoning regulations, to do what's best for the citizens of Old Lyme. It has been an honor to serve and I hope to help the town with the rewrite of the zoning regulations so they will be relevant to our town and in the service of the people. Why should someone vote for you?
Vote for me because I have experience, integrity, and I care about the people of Old Lyme. What do you want voters to know about you?
I am sincere and dedicated to the equality of all people. I think it is essential to give back to our community in as many ways as possible. I believe in the rule of law and that is why the ZBA is appealing to me because the focus is on the Zoning Regulations, not on politics. Volunteer Activities
