Michaelle Pearson | Zoning Board of Appeals
|
Education BA, Creighton University JD, New York Law School What inspired you to run for local office? I am running for Zoning Board of Appeals. I was elected as a ZBA alternate in 2023, and am now seeking a full seat. As Chair of the Shoreline Gateway Committee and Secretary of the Sound View Commission, I have seen firsthand how zoning can affect people’s lives and neighborhoods. As a researcher and historian, I treasure Old Lyme’s small town charm, and I’d like to help preserve it. |

Bio and Qualifications
I've served as a ZBA Alternate for two years. In that time, I've learned a lot about the various zoning issues that can create challenges for Old Lyme residents, and how to find solutions while maintaining zoning integrity. As Chair of the Shoreline Gateway Committee and Secretary of the Sound View Commission, I understand how zoning can affect people’s lives and neighborhoods. I earned my Juris Doctor from New York Law School and have many years’ experience working with historic documents, surveys, and land records, which will be useful as a ZBA board member. I treasure Old Lyme’s small town charm, and I’d like to help preserve it. Why should someone vote for you?
Volunteer service has always been a core value of our town, and one of the many things that makes Old Lyme such a special place to live. From being a "room mom" every year at Mile Creek School, to mentoring the High School robotics team, and serving on numerous town boards, commissions, and committees, I've proven myself to be a dedicated, enthusiastic volunteer for many years. I bring legal and historical skills to the Board, and sincere respect for everyone on the Old Lyme ZBA. It has been an honor to serve as a ZBA alternate, and I hope the voters will grant me a full seat in 2025. What’s your favorite place in Old Lyme?
My favorite place and favorite thing to do in Old Lyme is swimming at the beach. I also enjoy Musical Masterworks, and events at the Phoebe Griffin Noyes Library and Florence Griswold Museum. What is something not many people know about you? I’m a silversmith and a member of the Lyme Artisans Guild. I recently spent several weeks crafting a faerie house installation with the other Guild members for the Florence Griswold Museum's Wee Faerie Village. What is your favorite book? "House of the Seven Gables" by Nathaniel Hawthorne |
