Candidate Spotlight | Mary Jo Nosal | Zoning Commission
Why I am running as a Democrat
As a Democrat, I believe in social justice, and that each one of us deserves respect and fair treatment by our government. These are values that I tried to uphold as a Selectwoman (D) in Old Lyme for the past ten years. Why are you running now?
Along with Maria Martinez, I will be a good listener and an active participant on the Zoning Commission. To maintain our small-town charm, a strong and experienced team is needed to protect the use of land in our town while fairly applying the Land Use Regulations. |
What issues do you want to work on if elected?
- Ensure that we continue to apply our Zoning regulations in a consistent and fair manner and that we use our strategic Plan of Conservation and Development document as a guideline.
- Continue to work on our wastewater infrastructure and look for opportunities to ensure that our land use regulations are current and relevant.
- While maintaining our town charm, support programs that ensure a vibrant retail and family-friendly town center for the community.
- Focus on understanding how the current environmental changes impact our coastal communities and take necessary steps to protect our natural resources.

What qualifies you to serve?
As a Selectwoman, I had the privilege of addressing issues that the Old Lyme community is concerned with, such as, Open Space, Halls Road Improvements, Sound View Improvements, investment in our infrastructure and promoting small business. I have attended many Zoning Commission meetings and I respect how hard these community volunteers work on behalf of our Town.

What do you love most about Old Lyme?
As we say at the Old Lyme Historical Society where I am a volunteer, “It’s the Charm of The Place.” Our natural resources, family-centered lifestyle, outstanding educational system, and the spirit of volunteerism, all make Old Lyme special.
