Candidate Spotlight | Kathleen Tracy | Zoning Board of Appeals Alternate
What inspired you to run for local office?
I think it is important for people to give back to their community and participate in an area that they can make a significant contribution. Government is not for everyone, but it is an area that I feel I can make a difference. I am discouraged by the lack of competency in our current administration and feel the job can be done more effectively. Subsequently, I raised my hand to help out! |
What’s your favorite place in Old Lyme?
I must admit, my favorite spot in Old Lyme is Sound View Beach (SVB). Yes, it is true I love to swim no matter what the water temperature and SVB has the best swimming area on the Connecticut Coast. SVB also has the best ice-cream, lemon ice and a wonderful boutique in the Carousel Shop as well as restaurants right on the beach. People are friendly and whether the sun is out or not, SVB is the very best spot to be.
What was the last experience that made you a stronger person?
I am a watercolor artist but I have not been in class since Covid-19. Recently, I took a week-long class with a master watercolor artist who challenged me to paint more creatively and not just use paint to color in a picture. By day three, I was so frustrated with the challenge of this new method and my inability to put what I knew were best practices into play. I did not give up but decided to practice until I was more accomplished. It is not about being perfect but it is all about not giving up and putting in the time to accomplish the goal. You are never too old to learn something new! |
