Fred Behringer | Board of Finance Alternate
|
Education BS, Bates College PhD, Cornell University What inspired you to run for local office? I am running for Board of Finance Alternate because I want to help keep taxes as low as possible but also support the many activities that are needed to operate the town and are part of the great community we live in. I want to find ways to push back on mandates where possible since these are big cost drivers. |

Bio and Qualifications
I am a twenty-six year Old Lyme resident and retired small business owner. As a retiree I can dedicate the time needed. Since retirement I have been active on several boards/commissions/committees and contribute to the town in other ways. I have experience in leadership positions and strong analytical skills. Why should someone vote for you?
I’ve learned a lot about town finances during my past two years. Having independent voices brings balance. It is a challenge to keep costs down - most larger budget items are mandated and costs keep rising. I will look into details and work to spend taxpayer money responsibly. What’s your favorite place in Old Lyme?
Among favorite places and things to do in Old Lyme are enjoying our natural places and attending Lyme-Old Lyme High School plays and concerts. What is something not many people know about you? I hiked Kilimanjaro at age 60 with one of my daughters. What is your favorite book? My favorite book recently: “How the World Really Works” by Vaclav Smil |
