Candidate Spotlight | Russell Fogg | Zoning Board of Appeals
What inspired you to run for this position?
Last year, I was asked to fill a vacancy on the Zoning Board of Appeals and I agreed. I’ve found this board and the process this board goes through, very interesting and rewarding. I like problem solving and find it a real good fit, as I’ve been involved with the building trades all of my adult life. I would love to continue to serve our community. |
What is your favorite place in Old Lyme?
The woods! My wife and I are blessed to live between the Ames and McCulloch preserves. Walking through them throughout the seasons is always a source of peace and inspiration. Observing nature and all of its glory never gets old!

Who would you like to meet past or present?
I would like to meet my grandfather Fogg. He was born in 1880’s England and emigrated here just as the First World War broke out. He died a few years before I was born. I would have loved to know what brought him here and what his experience was as an immigrant. His struggles and joys. He no doubt witnessed great change in his life as it was a very turbulent time. In his era, to leave your country of origin meant that he would likely never see his family or friends again. It must have been a daunting decision to come here.
